Susanna Reid took the opportunity to call her new co-host – the day after a “ appalling ” discussion, fans reached out to the presenter.
ITV host and Alastair Campbell were joined by former House of Commons Speaker John Bercow.
And while Susanna shared opposing views with her co-star and guest, she was ‘insulted’ when she challenged the couple.
John took Susanna’s exception by referring to the prime minister as just ‘Boris’ and interrupted him,’ No, you just like to call him Boris, because he’s your favorite puppy, apparently.
Susanna looked taken aback by the comment and made a face before responding, “It’s a little insulting to me.
“I think a lot of people call him Boris the same way people call him Keir, and I call you John …”
The conversation was tense until the end and Susanna clearly gave herself time to think about her return.
As at Wednesday’s GMB, with Alastair and Susanna to be joined by former Prime Minister Tony Blair, she asked if she was allowed to call him by his first name,
This left Alastair to claim it was different because Boris is the current Prime Minister.
“Am I allowed to call Tony Blair ‘Tony’ or will I be accused of treating him like my favorite puppy?” she asked.
When Alastair asked her what she usually called him, answering “Tony”, Alastair told her it was okay.
But Susanna wasn’t going to let go, responding, “Okay, so when I call Boris Johnson ‘Boris’ I get criticized, so is it okay if it’s someone from the Labor Party?
“Can I call them by their first name?”
Alastair replied: “No, I think if you spoke to him when he was Prime Minister, I think it would be Prime Minister Mr. Blair. I think now it’s different …”
“Alright, just write these rules…” Susanna joked.
While Alastair suggested it was “common sense”, Susanna argued that it might be rude to simply call her “Blair”.
“No,” Alastair replied. “No, the point I made … we call Tony ‘Tony’ because he’s a pretty informal guy, but I think when someone is the Prime Minister the media should reflect who and what they are.”
“Sorry, I didn’t get a call from Boris Johnson saying, ‘Call me Boris’,” Susanna dug next.
She added: “Sorry, I got knocked down by Bercow yesterday. John Bercow explained to me that I shouldn’t call him Boris because he’s my favorite puppy.
“I think if the Labor Party thinks the biggest problem with Boris Johnson is that people call him Boris, then they underestimate him and his popularity.”
Fans reached out to Susanna after the exchange on Monday.
Sharing two photos of herself posing in her hot pink floral outfit for the show, Susanna wrote, “PINK TUESDAY! @Marksandspencer dress.”
One fan replied: “Hope you are feeling well after the dreadful chat this morning with men talking about you! It was really frustrating to watch. You can handle GMB yourself, you don’t have to. need a winger. “
