Marvel’s next sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vo. 3, will be looking to give fans something they’ve been waiting for a while: classic Marvel Comics costumes. The new Guardians misfires debuted thanks to newly revealed set footage shared on social media by a Twitter user The Hollywood handle (Going through JustJared). The handful of images show Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord and Karen Gillan’s Nebula sporting the iconic uniforms that will be familiar to those who have read the famous comic strip directed by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning.
In addition to showing Star-Lord and his team in new outfits, the set images also offer our first look at some of the secondary characters from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3, which seemingly confirm who the villain of the MCU release will be. Showing what appear to be human/animal hybrids wearing street clothes, the footage likely confirms that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 will feature the High Evolutionary, a character known for his questionable science experiments.
Not only does the sight of these hybrids strongly suggest The High Evolutionary will be involved, but they also confirm that the Marvel Trio plot will tell the origin story of beloved Guardians of the Galaxy member Rocket Raccoon, who was himself. -even a subject of the distorted experiences of the High Evolutionary. “I’ll just say that Rocket is a big part of what happens in the future – and a lot of those things (like the scars we’re about to see on his back) set up what I’ve been planning for Rocket from the start,” said director James Gunn in 2020.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Will end this era of the franchise
Introducing the intergalactic and mismatched hero team in 2014, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will conclude this era of the franchise and is expected to be the final outing of this iteration of the titular team. With that in mind, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is likely to be an emotional MCU adventure for audiences and cast, with returning star Zoe Saldaña describing the film as “melancholy” and “bittersweet”.
“It’s bittersweet; after all these years of complaining about that green makeup, I’m already nostalgic for it,” the actress said. “There’s a lot of melancholy here, but also the pride of having achieved something great. James Gunn wrote a great story, which makes us emotional even while we’re shooting it. Omicron plays us a doozy every other day, but we manage and we’re happy.
Written and directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 features an ensemble cast featuring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, and Sean Gunn, who will each reprise their roles from previous MCU installments. The sequel will introduce several new characters, including Will Poulter as Adam Warlock, an artificial being created by the Sovereign to destroy the Guardians out of revenge, and Chukwudi Iwuji, who is set to portray The High Evolutionary.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to be released in the United States on May 5, 2023, as part of the MCU’s Phase Four.
